How many people, both young and old, both men and women, forget to give proper care to their hair and then exclaim, ‘Oh dear, I seem to be losing all of my hair!’ or ‘Just look at these awful grey hairs! I didn’t want to look old so soon!’

If they only knew, there is a wonderful herb which keeps the hair young and thick, helps to give it that lively healthy look, and invigorates the whole head as a safeguard against premature greyness. It is the delightful herb Rosemary, which can be seen growing in so many gardens, and always looks attractive with its dark green narrow leaves between which are prettily arranged the bluish-lilac coloured flowers.

In medieval times the ladies used to throw the sprays of this herb into the water in which they washed their hair. In these modern times Heath & Heather prepare a hair tonic by using the extract of Rosemary and putting it into bottles for convenient use. The pungent, refreshing smell of a Rosemary bush will be well known to many readers. This lively aroma is preserved perfectly in the bottled extract and is most invigorating when used on the head. Culpeper advised that is should be used to ease headaches, and certainly a cool friction over the head with this lotion is most pleasant. Those who have a slight natural wave in their hair will find that it makes the wave firmer, and is also recommended for people with grey or white hair to add an attractive crispness to the appearance of the hair. It is a great pleasure to read the many letters received from customers thanking Heath & Heather for this fine extract, and to note how frequently it is recommended. The department where it is prepared for dispatch has been considerably enlarged, and yet can only just keep up with the rush of orders.

While now at Heath & Heather we no longer sell medicinal herb compounds, we thought we’d give you a little peak into what Heath & Heather did back in the day. Stay tuned for more Heath & Heather excerpts from our old Books of Herbs from years gone past.
