When the cold creeps in and the days darken, most would forget that despite the winter season, there are still many opportunities to forage in the wild, whether you are a beginner or an expert.
With Christmas drawing near, one of the most loved flavours to look forward to is cranberries; known for their high levels of antioxidants and Vitamin C! Now is the perfect time to get out and hunt for your very own wild cranberries. Most commonly seen in bogs, damp heaths and wetlands, the picking season in the UK is October till December.
You can also look out for Dandelion, Hawthorn Berry and Burdock root. Although the Dandelion and Burdock flowers may already started to wither, it is the leaves and roots, which you can find in winter, that hold all the nutritional and medicinal properties. Between using Dandelion leaves in a salad, to stir frying Burdock batons, and making Hawthorn Berry jam, there are many ways to use your foraged goodies.
At Heath & Heather we incorporate all the interesting flavours and natural goodness found in the natural world, into our teas. Here are some teas that include ingredients you can find out in the wild this Winter season: Organic Echinacea & Cranberry, and Organic Dandelion, Burdock & Hawthorn, all found on our website http://www.heathandheather.co.uk
